On Whidbey, Fidalgo & Guemes Islands

Hiking Close to Home

Picture

Living on Whidbey Island for over 20 years and on Fidalgo Island for 5 has given me the opportunity to explore many of their most beautiful and intriguing places. There are beaches and bluffs, woodlands and wetlands, fields and forest, lovely lakes, and even a few mountains. Lace up your shoes, grab your walking stick and get ready to go exploring.

Hiking Close to Home 2023 Edition is Available
Our latest edition of Hiking Close to Home with over 70 hikes is available under the Books Tab above or at; Madrona Supply Company in Clinton, Moonraker Books in Langley, Wild Birds Unlimited in Freeland, Kingfisher Books, Fort Casey State Park and the Island County Historical Museum in Coupeville, Three Sisters Market, Whidbey Farm & Market, Whidbey Wild Birds and Wind & Tide Books in Oak Harbor, Deception Pass State Park store, Watermark Books and The Red Snapper in Anacortes, and Seaport Books in La Conner.

ALERT: The Kingfisher Bookstore in Coupeville was flooded during the windstorm and King Tide of Dec. 28th. Please show your support for our independent bookstores especially when they are struggling. Thanks.

ALERT: The Ship Harbor Interpretive Pathway at the west end of Anacortes has been wiped out by the recent king tides and storm waves. The trail is closed for visitor safety, and will not open soon, as the damage to the boardwalk is extensive.

ALERT: The Tommy Thompson Trail trestle was burned in August of 2022. An arsonist also burned the trestle in 2009 but a community effort raised the funds and soon it was repaired. We hope the community will do the same in response to this fire to reopen this hugely popular trail. The trail is currently closed between the Fidalgo Bay Resort and March's Point Road. To make a contribution to rebuild the trestle, click here.
